Frequently asked questions
Why does my HRV ice up outside in winter?
Some icing of the exhaust port is normal in very cold weather, and many units have a defrost cycle to manage it. Heavy or persistent icing that does not clear points to a defrost control or airflow problem worth having checked.
Will an HRV fix window condensation on its own?
It can help significantly by removing excess indoor moisture, but condensation is also affected by window quality and indoor humidity settings, so it is often addressed alongside other factors.
How often should HRV or ERV filters be cleaned?
Most manufacturers recommend checking filters every few months, since a clogged filter reduces airflow and the unit's ability to exchange air effectively.
My bathroom fan runs but the room still stays steamy. Why?
This can be due to an undersized fan for the room, a duct that is too long or restrictive, or a duct that has become disconnected or blocked, all of which we can check on a visit.
